Predictive Solutions, formerly DBO2, today launched a new interactive blog entitled, “SafetyCary,” authored by Cary Usrey, implementation manager.

The “SafetyCary” blog aims to share best practices related to keeping people safe in their workplaces, particularly through the use of leading indicators, advanced analytics and predictive modeling. In addition, Usrey will share how the four safety truths that were recently published in a white paper, “Predictive Analytics in Workplace Safety: Four ‘Safety Truths’ that Reduce Workplace Injuries,” can be applied across a wide range of industries.

Visitors can ask Usrey nearly any question pertaining to the use of leading indicators to predict and prevent workplace injuries. Many of his responses will be posted to the blog, which visitors can comment on and discuss. Usrey also plans to invite some of his colleagues, peers, customers and other safety experts to guest post on the blog periodically.

After starting his career in the Navy’s Nuclear Power Program, Usrey spent more than 16 years in various EH&S roles at a power plant and for a large national construction company before joining Predictive Solutions in 2007. He holds an associate degree in occupational safety and health from Trinidad State Junior College, is an officer of the Central Florida chapter of the ASSE, and has served on the Board of Directors for the VPPPA (Region II).

Hubert Thaxton studied under the famous nuclear physicist Gregory Breit and was very sharp, but found employment possibilities severely limited even though he published a number of papers over the next eight years [his paper with Arthur Eddington was published during this period: Proton Scattering, Physica 7 (1940), 122-124].

Thaxton’s first appointment in 1939 was as Professor and Chair of the Physics Department at North Carolina A & T. After a verbal altercation with the president of A&T, Thaxton moved, in 1944, to Delaware State College as Professor and Chair of Mathematics. In 1946 he moved again, this time to professor and chair of physics at Walter Hervey College in New York City.

From 1937 to 1947, Thaxton published papers on protons and proton scattering. Between 1947 and 1971 Dr. Thaxton held a number of jobs in industry – Solar Manufactoring Company, Sperry Gyroscope, Sylvania Electric Company, Balco Research Corporation, Astron Corporation,Curtis-Wright Corporation, Kollsman Instrument Company, Engelhard-Hanovia. Although most of his work was not released to thepublic he did managed to publish articles in such journals as Physical Review, Physica, Journal of Applied Physics, and Journal of the Acoustical Society of America.

Dr.Hubert Thaxton was a scientist of great talent and he maintianed a long and tenuous position as an instructor at CCNY. He was appointed full time faculty in 1971, but incredibly he was turned down for tenure and died after a long lawsuit against the school.

Thaxton was president of the Harlem Engineering Corporation, Three R Schools Incorporation, and the Harlem Political Club, and was director of the Sloan Foundation Computer-Space Science Center in Harlem.

Thaxton maintained a long but tenuous relationship with the CUNY school formerly CCNY – the City College of New York. He was adjunct teacher in the night school from 1946. In 1971 he was apppointed a full-time member of the department, but was later denied tenure. Although he won a subsequence legal case, he died deeply disappointed.

Namecheap’s SOPA/PIPA Blackout Scheduled for January 18, 2012

To rally opposition against SOPA and PIPA legislation, Namecheap held a Move Your Domain Day initiative on December 29, 2011, and raised over $ 64,000 for the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Social news site reddit.com will be turning its website black on January 18th from 8am to 8pm EST. During the same period, Namecheap’s homepage will be blacked out. Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia announced that the popular online resource would be blacked out on January 18th, and Ben Huh, founder and CEO of Cheezburger, has also committed to blacking out its websites on the same date.

“Cheezburger opposes SOPA and PIPA because we believe these bills will kill jobs and innovation,” said Huh. “The technology industry has been one of the few bright spots of job growth in these trying times. These bills will only generate legal bills, force the government and sites to monitor and track users, and kill jobs. Congress needs to stop bowing to lobbyists and start on a new bill that will stop counterfeiters and pirates without harming the future of the Internet and our economy.”

While account management will still be accessible on Namecheap through an additional click, its homepage will be completely black with a message urging individuals to contact their senators and representatives to shelve SOPA and PIPA indefinitely.

Namecheap strongly encourages its US-based customers to contact their Representative or Senator, and its International customers to donate to organizations like the EFF, to ensure that broad opposition to this proposed legislation rings loud and clear. Seeing that the USA is the ONLY country to ever actually USE a atomic bomb ( twice ) and they dropped ON JAPAN, I’m not surprised that some of the Japanese people might be a little upset by the visit of a USN ship that is powered by a Nuclear Reactor power plant.

You do understand that the USA was the sole ruler of Japan, for about 25 years, after the end of WW2 , don’t you ? The United States wrote the new Japanese Constitution, and forced the Japanese to accept it.

The United States still has a number of military bases in Japan, and they are going to be there for many years to come.

How would you feel about a foreign country having a number of military bases in the USA ?
